Legislative Update from Rep. Nathan Coulter

Friday, April 12, 2024
Nathan Coulter Banner

Friends and neighbors,

I want to extend a warm thank you to everyone who joined us last week for a community conversation. Hearing from and connecting with my community is by far my favorite part of my job, and I appreciate seeing so many engaged in what we’re doing in the legislature. If you weren’t able to join, keep an eye out for the next one!

Passing Policy Packages

Last week, the House began passing policy bill packages on major issue areas building on the work of our historically productive 2023 session and improving the lives of Minnesotans. So far, the House has passed:

  • A public safety package that passed unanimously and includes bipartisan provisions that protect victim-survivors and make our system more just.
  • Bills supporting our Departments of Military Affairs and Veterans Affairs, which passed with unanimous support!
  • A bipartisan higher education policy bill that includes the clean energy sector in our Workforce Development Scholarship Program and expands support in higher education for students who have a disability.
  • An early education policy bill focused on strengthening our pre-kindergarten and school readiness programs.
  • A bipartisan transportation policy package that improves road safety, DVS wait times, child passenger safety, and consumer protections.
  • An elections bill that addresses voting rights, election disinformation, and school board appointments.
  • A labor package to enhance worker protections, strengthen the minimum wage, ban shadow non-competes, increase pay transparency, and more.

I’m proud to see a piece of legislation I authored included in these packages – in the Higher Education bill, my legislation to regulate online program managers was included. You can see my remarks about the bill on the House Floor here. All of these policy packages build upon our work last year to lower the cost of living for families and make Minnesota the best place to raise a family. We’ll continue this work next week as we continue to take up policy packages on the Floor.

Almanac at the Capitol

I had a fun time chatting with Mary Lahammer on Almanac at the Capitol about the work I’m doing and why I care so deeply about serving our community and state. Thanks for having me! You can watch the interview here.

Take My Legislative Survey!

One of the best tools I have in setting my legislative priorities is YOU! That’s why I’m inviting you to take my legislative survey, open now through July 1.
