Legislative Update

Friday, March 22, 2024

Dear Neighbors,

I hope you are all enjoying Spring Break!

Well, we knew it would come eventually! As we brace for what’s shaping up to be a snowy weekend, this week has been especially busy at the Capitol as we continue working on solutions to make our state work better for everyone and help Minnesotans have the economic security they deserve. Here’s and update from the Capitol:

dbfgb

I’ve had a busy week meeting with constituents and discussing the many issues which are important to them and impact their lives. This is one of the best parts of this job!

My Bills

This week is the first and second deadline which is a cut off for which bills can make their way to the House floor. This means our work this week is quite hectic. I am continuing my efforts on my various bills including my reform of our civil commitment process and an update to the Read Act. There’s great coverage on the Read Act, here.

Edina Tree Sale

The Edina tree sale is underway! This is a great way to add some greenery to your home without breaking the bank. Learn more here.

Federal Assistance for Small Businesses Affected by Warm Winter

Despite this weekend’s snow, our “winter” this year has been unseasonably warm. While many of us have enjoyed foregoing winter jackets this year, the low precipitation we’ve experienced this winter has had a real economic impact on small businesses that rely on snow and winter tourism. Federal Economic Injury Disaster Loans are available due to the ongoing federal drought declarations affecting 81 Minnesota counties. Small business owners should apply here for assistance as soon as possible.

Earth Day Electronics Recycling

Make electronics and appliance recycling easy this Earth Day, April 20, by stopping by Edina Community Lutheran Church’s east parking lot. Electronics recycling is very important as it diverts waste from overloading our landfills and contributes to the economy; it’s estimated that if we fully recycled all electronics the state could profit over $3 billion. You can follow the event here, and learn about which electronics are accepted here.
