Legislative Update (January 11, 2019)

Friday, January 11, 2019

Dear Neighbors,

I hope your 2019 is off to a great start. On Tuesday, legislators returned to St. Paul, as the new legislative session officially began. I joined my colleagues in the House as we took the oath of office and were sworn-in as state representatives.

Tuesday marked the third time I’ve taken the oath of office, and it continues to remind me of what an incredible privilege serving our community in the legislature affords. It is truly an honor to represent you and your family in St. Paul, and I thank you for placing your trust in me.

Legislative activity will really pick up next week as committees begin meeting and hearing bill proposals. My committee assignments for this year include the Capital Investment Division, the Health and Human Services Policy Committee, and the Housing Finance & Policy Division. I am eager to get work in these committees right away, and look forward to working with my colleagues on the important issues that will come before us such as statewide infrastructure projects, addressing healthcare costs and accessibility, and access to affordable housing.

I will have more information for you as session gets going. In the meantime, I urge you to contact me and share any legislative questions, concerns, or ideas you may have. There will be many consequential decisions made at the Capitol in the coming months, and I feel it is important to know what issues matter most to our communities. I can be reached by phone at 651-296-4378 or by email at rep.nels.pierson@house.mn.

Have a great weekend,
