SAINT PAUL – On Monday, The Minnesota House of Representatives approved Rep. Nels Pierson’s, R-Rochester, dentistry bill on a unanimous vote of 131-0. The bill, HF1712, allows dental hygienists to utilize their full scope of practice on a patient in collaboration with a dentist.
“Our goal with this bill was to increase dental care access by allowing certified hygienists to perform their job duties even if they are at a different facility like a nursing home, Head Start program, or group home,” said Pierson. “This bill is about giving more access to quality dental care. It doesn’t expand the role of hygienists or dental assistants; it simply gives these professionals more options to do their job and help our neighbors.”
Now passed by the House, the bill heads to the Senate.
