On Wednesday, Rep. Nels Pierson, R-Rochester presented his bill, HF608, to the Agriculture Policy Committee. He was joined by Nolan Lenzen, a dairy farmer from Eagle Bend, Minnesota, as well as Andrew Barsness and Matthew Fitzgerald from the Central MN Young Farmers Coalition also testified (photos attached).
The legislation would provide a tax credit for beginning farmers for the purchase of land or rental of farm equipment.
“This is a great bill to help make it more affordable to start a career as a farmer,” said Pierson. “The agriculture industry is the backbone of Southern Minnesota, and we need to make sure, at the state level, we’re working to make it easier for these hardworking Minnesotans to put food on the table of families around the state.”
