Dear Neighbors,
We passed some major legislation at the Capitol, and I wanted to make sure you’re current with what’s happening in St. Paul.
Health Care Reform
Yesterday was a big day in the House of Representatives. As you probably know, Minnesota’s individual healthcare market has struggled since the early days of Obamacare. This year, some families saw a 60% increase on their premiums, and that doesn’t even factor in sky-high deductibles. With rising costs and decreased healthcare options, we have to make significant changes.
Last night, we passed the 2017 Health Care Emergency Aid and Access bill on a bipartisan vote, and Governor Dayton has already signed it. This bill provides short-term, emergency relief and reform. The aid will go to residents throughout the state, and includes reforms to preserve life-saving and end-of-life care for Minnesotans. We acted quickly to pass this legislation because it’s what our residents want, deserve, and need.
Former Mayor Chuck Canfield
Sadly, former Rochester Mayor Chuck Canfield passed away this week. Mayor Canfield was a model of what it means to serve your community. He transcended political ideology and could work together with anyone. He’s an important part of Rochester’s history and will certainly be missed. I hope you join me in praying for his family and loved ones.
