Rep. John Persell commends Governor Dayton’s efforts to put kids first

Thursday, April 9, 2015

ST. PAUL – Governor Mark Dayton delivered his State of the State address to a joint convention of the Minnesota Legislature this evening. Governor Dayton emphasized the strong performance of Minnesota’s economy and reiterated his desire to see the $1.9 billion budget surplus used for strong investments in Minnesota’s schools, from universal pre-kindergarten programs to continuing the tuition freeze at state colleges and universities.

“I support Governor Dayton’s strong emphasis on improving outcomes for our kids, and improving our future through stronger schools," said Rep. John Persell (DFL – Bemidji). "We have a rare opportunity to act this year to make lasting improvements to early learning, higher education, and transportation to make our roads safer to get our children and grandchildren to their schools. The Governor has called on us to act, and it would be a failure of leadership if we didn’t take this opportunity to improve the future of all Minnesotans by investing a significant portion of the surplus in our students and the future of our communities.”
