RELEASE: Garofalo: Stop The Attacks on Police: Defund the Minneapolis Park Board

Thursday, April 22, 2021

St. Paul, MN—State Representative Patrick Garofalo, R-Farmington, is calling on Republican colleagues in the Senate and House to hold the Minneapolis Park Board accountable by refusing to fund $1.8 million in restoration funds currently in the House Legacy bill until the Board apologizes and reverses its decision to kick the Minnesota State Patrol out of park headquarters.

“The anti-police rhetoric from woke, liberal activists has made its way from the gutters of social media to the day-to-day operations of the Minneapolis Park Board,” said Garofalo. “This blatant display of disrespect for those that serve our community is the latest example of Minneapolis leaders’ complete disconnect from reality. Actions have consequences, and I urge legislators to hold the Board accountable by withholding this funding until the Board reverses its decision and apologizes.”

Troopers had been using Park Board buildings to rest, eat meals, and to use restrooms while protecting the area from the potential of civil unrest.

Garofalo added, “I expect this will be one of many items that the legislature will use to enforce accountability at the Minneapolis Park Board this legislative session.”
