Because the state constitution prohibits the Legislature from passing bills on “the day prescribed for adjournment,” which this year is May 18, Monday will mark the start of the 2020 regular legislative session’s last full week of work.

The House schedule is mostly open over the coming days, except for daily meetings of the House Ways and Means Committee. But expect more hearings, punctuated by long floor sessions, as midnight May 17 nears. Speaker Melissa Hortman (DFL-Brooklyn Park) has suggested floor session each day.

There are three bills on Monday’s Calendar for the Day and several more on the agenda when the ways and means committee meets at 9 a.m., including legislation to help respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

But before we get to next week, here’s one last look at what you may have missed this week.
