Rep. Anderson statement re: Gov. Walz’s budget proposal

Tuesday, January 26, 2021

ST. PAUL – State Rep. Paul Anderson, R-Starbuck, issued the following statement Tuesday in response to the budget proposal Gov. Tim Walz issued for the upcoming biennium, including a $1.7 billion tax increase that would give Minnesota the nation’s second-highest business-tax rates and third-highest income-tax rates:

“The tax increases the governor is proposing at a time so many people are making less money seems misguided,” Anderson said. “His own decision to shut down businesses and impact workers has made it more difficult for them to make a living and now he’s looking to squeeze workers even more. There is not enough effort to control state spending in the governor’s plan, with more of a focus on ways to claim more revenue from Minnesotans. It appears much work needs to be done before there’s agreement on a new state budget.”
