House OKs technical changes, expansions to last year’s GI law

The House passed a technical bill Monday intended to further aid veterans and military members seeking apprenticeships and on-the-job training.

Sponsored by Rep. Keith Franke (R-St. Paul Park) and Sen. Bruce Anderson (R-Buffalo), HF3750/SF3461* would expand statutory language from a 2017 law. The House passed it 125-0; the Senate passed it 65-0 on May 7.

The bill now goes to the governor’s desk.

By allowing “veterans and serving members to use these funds in different areas,” Franke said, the bill would allow these individuals to use the funding in ways “other than traditional education” intended in last year’s law.
